Covers
A new idea every issue.
The covers were where I had the most creative freedom. Each one needed a visual concept that responded to the issue’s theme, while staying recognisable as the Human Givens Journal and right for a professional audience.
A selection of covers from the nine issues, 2019 to 2023.
Inside
Clear pages for long reads.
Each issue brought together long-form articles, illustrations and other editorial content within an established layout. My job was to keep the pages clear, consistent and readable, and to handle the detailed artworking that brought it all together in print and digital.
Inside pages: long-form articles, pull quotes and illustration on a consistent grid.
Template
QuarkXPress to InDesign, from scratch.
Shortly after I joined, I led the Journal’s move from QuarkXPress to InDesign. There was no straightforward way to transfer the existing layout, so I rebuilt the template from the ground up.

Cover story
Doorways to reality.
One cover was particularly personal. For Volume 28, No. 2 (2021), I used artwork from my earlier personal project, Excess Pixels. The issue explored consciousness, perception and what we pay attention to, which made the image a natural fit.
